Settle up and record a payment

Updated

When the costs are done, it’s time to Settle up. Donget works out the simplest way to make everyone even and lets you record each Payment so Balances reset cleanly.

Start settle up

  1. Open the Group.
  2. Tap Settle up.

Donget reads the current Balances and suggests the fewest Payments needed to clear every debt. Instead of everyone paying everyone, it might suggest just one or two transfers — so nobody sends five tiny amounts.

Record a payment

Once you’ve actually paid someone (or they’ve paid you), record it so the Balances update:

  1. From the settle-up screen, pick the suggested Payment, or tap Record payment.
  2. Confirm who paid whom and the amount.
  3. Adjust the figure if you only settled part of it.
  4. Tap Save.

The Payment is logged, Balances recalculate, and everyone in the Group sees the update in realtime.

Settle fully or partially

You don’t have to clear everything at once. Record a smaller amount and Donget keeps track of what’s left, so an ongoing Group — like a flat or a couple — can settle in instalments whenever it suits.

Tip: Donget records that a Payment happened — it doesn’t move money for you. Send the actual cash however you normally do, then record the Payment so everyone’s Balances match real life.

Check the history

Every Payment is saved alongside your Expenses, so the Group has a clear record of who settled and when. If anything looks off, open a Payment to edit or delete it, and Balances adjust right away.

Smart settle up and unlimited Payment records are completely free — no upgrade, no limits, no ads.
