Scan a receipt

Typing in totals is tedious. Instead, point your camera at the receipt and let Donget do the reading. Receipt scanning is built in and free — no upgrade required.

Scan a receipt

  1. Open the Group the cost belongs to.
  2. Tap the + button, then Scan receipt.
  3. Line the receipt up in the frame and take the photo. Good light and a flat surface help.
  4. Donget reads the total and pulls out the details it can.
  5. Check the amount, add a short description, then choose who paid and who shares the Expense.
  6. Tap Save.

The Expense is added and Balances update instantly — usually in seconds.

Review before saving

Scanning is fast, but a quick glance keeps things accurate:

  • Confirm the total matches the printed amount.
  • Adjust the description so it’s easy to recognise later.
  • Set the split if it isn’t a simple equal share.

You stay in control — nothing is saved until you tap Save.

Tip: Snap the receipt right at the table and add the Expense on the spot. It syncs in realtime, so everyone in the Group sees the new Expense and updated Balances straight away.

When a scan needs a hand

If a receipt is crumpled, faded or in tricky lighting, Donget may not catch every figure. Just type in or correct the amount by hand — the rest of the flow is exactly the same.

Keep the photo for reference

The receipt photo stays attached to the Expense, so anyone in the Group can open it later to check what was bought. No more “what was this charge again?” at the end of a trip.

Scanning as many receipts as you like is completely free, with no daily limit and no ads.
